If you live in, work in, or are visiting the Houghton area, chances are you’ve noticed that the Keweenaw is a special place for birds. From spring migrants moving along Lake Superior’s shoreline to resident species that stick it out through winter, this region plays an outsized role in the lives of birds - and in the people who care about them. The Copper Country Bird Club exists to support that connection through research, conservation, and shared learning across the Keweenaw Peninsula and the greater Lake Superior watershed.

Through the CCBC, we host birding events, support and conduct research, and work with partners to conserve habitat and reduce threats to birds. Our website is meant to be a practical resource for anyone interested in birds here - highlighting local birding locations, upcoming events, research and conservation efforts, nest box webcams, and ways to get involved, whether you’re new to birding or have been at it for decades.

By taking part in club events or supporting our work, you’re helping protect the birds and places that make the Copper Country what it is. Check back often for updates, upcoming outings, and new resources - and if you’re curious, engaged, or simply enjoy paying attention to birds, we’d be glad to have you along.
