About the event
Join us on Friday, July 31, for an early look at fall migration! Garrett Kucharski, an MTU PhD student, will lead a walk at the Calumet Treatment Ponds, where we’ll search for flocks of shorebirds freshly arrived from their Arctic breeding grounds, along with a variety of breeding waterfowl.
In past years, the ponds have hosted many interesting birds, including godwits, Wilson’s and Red-necked Phalaropes, and high numbers of Stilt and Baird’s Sandpipers.
Meet outside the gates at 8:00 a.m. and be prepared to walk approximately one mile while checking the ponds.
Please bring binoculars, a water bottle, a snack, and a spotting scope if you have one.
